His songs play in nearly every karaoke bar, and “Moloda Vovchytsia” can be heard in almost every taxi. Oleg Vynnyk’s name has become a brand, and even fellow performers envy his popularity. Opinion looked into who his target audience is, why he’s constantly the subject of jokes, how that actually benefits him, what he’s like off stage, whether comparisons with Stas Mikhailov make sense, and how demand created supply.

Who are Oleg Vynnyk’s listeners?

Psychologist Natalia Bodnar told Opinion that a typical Oleg Vynnyk fan is a middle-aged woman for whom the singer embodies the image of a fairytale prince. He is someone who understands and loves women, someone who says exactly what his audience wants to hear. According to Natalia Bodnar, his popularity is also driven by heavy radio rotation and the simplicity of his music.

“Looking at the audience at his concerts, you can conclude that the average Oleg Vynnyk fan is a middle-aged woman working in a government office or running a small business. Oleg plays a certain role — he’s the fairytale prince: a tall blond man who is both strong and romantic. He is a man who knows and appreciates women, sings about relatable topics, and praises women as individuals and the greatest creation on earth. That’s exactly what his listeners want to hear. Every woman wants to be loved, understood, admired, and celebrated in song.

His popularity is also tied to the constant radio play of his songs — and radio is a constant companion in many government offices. Plus, the melodies are easy to follow and catchy. After listening two or three times, you naturally start to sing along.”

The lyrics are mostly simple, without heavy meaning, and follow a clear rhyme and rhythm. In his songs, the chorus can be repeated three, four, or even five times, while there are usually no more than two verses. The song structures and melodies are very similar — and so are the lyrics,” the expert noted.

Sociologist Andrii Valenok also emphasizes the importance of clearly identifying the singer’s target audience. In his opinion, we’re talking about “older women,” and the lyrics of Vynnyk’s songs often carry a surprisingly deep meaning. According to the expert, what the artist says to the audience during his concerts also plays a crucial role — as each woman in the crowd believes the compliments are directed at her personally.

“Before we try to analyze the phenomenon of Oleg Vynnyk’s popularity, let’s look at his target audience. You don’t even need to be a sociologist or analyst to figure it out — we all know that his core fanbase consists of ‘older women,’ let’s be honest. Listen to a few of his songs. Before talking about him, you need to understand the lyrics he writes. All his songs carry a meaningful message and recognizable themes.

When we talk about Oleg Vynnyk as a kind of idol of the Ukrainian pop scene, we have to understand the work that goes into shaping his image. Let’s try to outline the psychological portrait of a typical Ukrainian woman. Usually, it’s someone who lacks attention from her husband, someone constantly caught up in daily chores and responsibilities. These women try to compensate for that lack of attention with the presence of the singer and his deeply emotional songs — songs that resonate with their everyday lives.

Watch a few of his concerts and take note of what he says to the audience. Of course, every woman believes that he’s speaking directly to her, that it’s all for her and no one else. Even simple epithets can have a magical effect and completely disarm the average Ukrainian woman.
But that’s only part of how the singer wins over his audience. Behind the lyrics and their emotional impact, there’s also his physical presence, his voice, and many other “hooks” that drive the female part of the crowd crazy the moment their ideal man steps out on stage,” reads the commentary for Opinion.

Pop music isn’t everything?

Renowned Ukrainian music journalist, poet, composer, and former producer of singer Nataliia Mohylevska, Oleksandr Yaholnyk, told Opinion that when analyzing the reasons behind Oleg Vynnyk’s popularity, we shouldn’t overlook his background in European musicals, which had a significant impact on his success.

“The phenomenon of Oleg Vynnyk’s popularity lies in the fact that he has a solid background in European daily musicals, where the performer sings, dances, acts, and does stunts — all at once. Considering that we don’t have musicals like that in Ukraine yet, the combination of his many talents, well-crafted material tailored to his audience, and a supportive wife — that’s the key to his well-deserved success here,” said Oleksandr Yaholnyk.

A punchline or “the king of suburban women”?

Ukrainian blogger Anastasiia Prykhodko believes that the many jokes about the singer don’t come from fans or listeners, but from those trying to boost their own popularity by riding on his name. According to her, the artist’s success comes from being in the right place at the right time — with the right song.

“Online, people say that Oleg Vynnyk equals traffic. But that’s only because of opportunistic users trying to ‘cash in.’ His actual audience doesn’t make memes or jokes. As one great woman said, ‘he’s the king of suburban women.’ That’s it. His hungry audience — looking for a man who knows exactly what to say.

How did it happen? There was a sudden need to quickly replace ‘Vse dlya tebya, morya i okeany,’ and that’s when Vynnyk had his breakthrough with ‘Nezhnuyu i rodnuyu, obnimu i zatseluyu.’

So credit to the artist himself, his management, and the ‘hungry’ women who give Oleg Vynnyk the chance to perform three-hour shows two nights in a row in cities with over a million people. What’s the secret? He was in the right place, at the right time, with the right song,” Anastasiia Prykhodko told Opinion.

Oleg Vynnyk: a phenomenon or the result of strategic effort?

Business coach and personal branding expert Kostiantyn Haliuk shared with Opinion the key elements of building a personal brand and commented on how these principles have been applied in Oleg Vynnyk’s public image. According to the expert, Vynnyk’s level of professionalism is far above typical pop music — like a global football star deciding to play in a lower-division team. Another essential factor is well-executed PR and the deliberate use of widely recognized symbolic gestures.

“Any personal brand is based on the following key pillars: professionalism, visibility, and market development. And our subject clearly demonstrates:
a) presence
b) growth in each of the areas listed above.

Professionalism — his actual performance level, according to many experts, is much higher than what’s typical in mainstream pop. Specialized education and serious ambitions led him to become a soloist in the Cherkasy Folk Choir at age 20. Then came roles in major opera productions across Europe.

The reasons behind his sudden return to Ukraine and his shift to pop music remain unclear, but that’s beside the point. His level is comparable to Messi suddenly deciding, ‘Why not play for a modest team?’ And, as you can imagine, a pro like that can sing any of his songs a cappella and leave his already-smitten fans breathless.

Visibility — strong PR is still a must, and Vynnyk’s is outstanding. It’s not even about the number of billboards.
Let’s start with his appearance, which plays with perception: on one hand, long, well-groomed blond hair; on the other — five-day stubble, a white shirt with a tie, and a leather biker jacket with sleeves rolled up to the elbows… A classic “good boy / bad boy” combo.

Then there’s his use of symbolic gestures:
– the “OK” sign — thumb and index finger forming a circle — representing the letter O for Oleg
– the “peace” or “V” sign — a symbol used by hippies for peace, or as “Victory” in older contexts — made with the right hand to represent the initial of his last name, Vynnyk.
Together, it communicates: “Everything will be OK, my victory will be peaceful.” And it’s all performed by a man in a shirt and tie for the office-style fans, topped with a rocker jacket for those who “remember the wild ’90s.”
This is a clear, 100% understanding of his target audience — women over 30 whose dreams of a fairytale prince haven’t quite faded.
Market development — three-in-one: singer, composer, songwriter. Could someone like that not be popular? Yes — if they were lazy. But our hero shows incredible work ethic, which draws the attention of both fans and haters.
And finally, about the haters. I don’t think there’s a single comedy show left that hasn’t joked about Oleg Vynnyk. Sometimes it seems like he’s paying them to do it. Because, as the saying goes, “there’s no such thing as bad publicity,” or in the words of Henry Ford, “Let them say whatever they want, as long as they spell the name right,” explained Kostiantyn Haliuk.

On stage and off — is there a difference?

Aliona Roienko, PR manager at Friends of Brands and former PR manager at music company Moon Records, told Opinion that Oleg Vynnyk’s image as a sincere and open person with positive energy exists both on and off stage. According to Aliona Roienko, the singer managed to become a substitute for the Russian artists who are now banned in Ukraine, and his songs are exactly the kind of music that resonates most with the local audience.

“I’d point out a few key aspects here: timing, image, music, and personality.

Timing. For the average Ukrainian listener aged 35+, after the tour bans on Stas Mikhailov and Philipp Kirkorov and the introduction of so-called radio quotas, to be honest — there just wasn’t anything left to listen to. And I think the phenomenon of Oleg Vynnyk’s incredible popularity can be explained by exactly that: he was in the right place at the right time.

He became a replacement for many Russian performers who are now blocked from performing in Ukraine.”
Music. I’ve long noticed a trend that likely formed over time — our audience responds best to simple, straightforward music. To put it bluntly: easy-to-understand music for the people, about what really matters. That’s what explains the popularity not only of Oleg Vynnyk, but also of Iryna Fedyshyn, Olya Polyakova, Dzidzio, and radio stations like Pyatnytsya FM. Romantic songs, simple and catchy melodies, lyrics that feel familiar — almost like they’re about all of us — those are the songs of Vynnyk.
I also think his image is really compelling: the ideal romantic man with Hollywood looks — mysterious and attractive. And the most interesting thing is, you believe him. That’s who he is, both on and off the stage. Many people who’ve met him say he gives off a warm energy, he’s charming, and on stage — his emotions feel genuine, he loves his audience, and he’s sincere.
And for an artist, that’s incredibly important — to be real and open. The audience always feels that. And they respond in kind,” shared Aliona Roienko.

How the Vynnyk brand works: singer of the capital or the regions?

Veronika Lavska, partner at the PR agency Lavska Story, told Opinion that there are several strategies an emerging artist can take. One approach is tactical — aiming to break into the capital, get featured in trendy magazines. Another approach is strategic thinking — and that’s what the Oleg Vynnyk brand follows.
According to the expert, we’re now seeing the second wave of the singer’s popularity, and mass appeal is being built through regional concert tours.
Because that’s where the audience lives — the one that actually buys tickets and drives the ratings.

“Many emerging artists aim for Kyiv because that’s where all the key celebrity media are — the coveted air time with Katya Osadcha, red carpet events from M1, Viva… Concert organizers, PR managers… everything that can help launch a career.
If the main goal is popularity — frequent media mentions, appearances in social columns — then that path is valid. In this case, artists tend to think tactically rather than strategically. But it’s a tough and slow road. To get free press coverage, you need to already be famous. And to become famous, you need to appear in top-tier media. A closed loop.

That’s the difference between an artist and a producer. An artist thinks tactically, while a producer thinks strategically.
The goal in the second case is profit, because any project is created as a business venture. Popularity is simply a byproduct — added value.
This is exactly the strategy used by the Oleg Vynnyk brand. With a strong background — think back to 2006–2011, when the stars of Ukrainian pop were Oleg Vynnyk, Taisia Povaliy, Pavlo Zibrov, Viktor Pavlik…
In other words, the artist is experiencing a second wave of popularity.
So how do you win over the masses? The same way politicians do — by going on tour to audiences in the regions.
With a folksy album full of melodic, danceable music and relatable lyrics, Oleg Vynnyk’s team didn’t focus on PR or promoting him in entertainment columns. They focused on sales — sales in the regions where he was already known and recognizable among listeners who had followed him during the first wave.
While most artists try to break into Kyiv to launch their careers, we have to remember: the masses are not in Kyiv.
The fans who buy tickets, drive up ratings, and create demand — they’re in the regions.
In fact, they’re all across Ukraine.
What matters most is: what is your goal?” said Veronika Lavska.
Political analyst Dmytro Franchuk also agrees with the idea of the artist experiencing a second wave of popularity. According to him, Oleg Vynnyk was once on the same level as Pavlo Zibrov, but his timely awareness of the industry’s changes and evolution helped the author of “Moloda Vovchytsia” stay on top of the popularity wave — and rise to its peak again.
“He used to be right there alongside Pavlo Zibrov and others, but he rebranded himself in time for a rapidly developing industry — and pushed out many outdated performers who failed to evolve. Just as important is the strong PR team behind him that promotes the artist on social media, and his appearances on various talk shows have only added to his popularity,” explained the analyst to Opinion.

Oleg Vynnyk — the Ukrainian counterpart to Stas Mikhailov?

Commenting for Opinion on the phenomenon of the singer’s popularity, Liliia Brudnytska, an expert at the Center for Structural Political Science, spoke about the parallels between Oleg Vynnyk and Russian performer Stas Mikhailov, with whom the Ukrainian artist is often compared. In her view, both singers share many similarities — from the style of their compositions to their target audiences. Brudnytska also believes we can expect to see many “clones” of Vynnyk in the near future — and some can already be found performing in small live music venues.

“My opinion is highly subjective, since I had only heard about Oleg Vynnyk from TV ads (on the Inter channel before New Year’s), and only recently watched a few of his performances.
To me, Oleg Vynnyk immediately reminded me of another incredibly popular Russian singer, who was also called a phenomenon — Stas Mikhailov.
In terms of style (at least the songs I’ve heard), Vynnyk and Mikhailov seem to share a similar audience: people who lack heartfelt, honest connection or have had to suppress certain emotions and feelings for a long time.

his audience can be extremely broad, because the singer positions himself as a soulful companion. His vocal range or song quality isn’t what matters most to his fans.
Instead, what matters in that kind of emotional “heart-to-heart” connection is a soft, muted voice, gentle lullaby-like melodies, and simple lyrics with a hint of emotional depth.

Just like Stas Mikhailov, Oleg Vynnyk primarily appeals to women. Of course, his popularity was boosted by well-executed, high-quality PR. The “heartthrob” title is part of this PR strategy — and a very effective one — because the target audience is female, and women want to listen to a titled, charming prince. There are no mentions of war, utility tariffs, or rising prices at his concerts — people come to relax. In fact, Vynnyk has borrowed a lot from the gurus of modern spiritual cults and cleverly adapted those elements. I wouldn’t be surprised if, in the near future, he completely shifts focus and starts singing about spiritual values, or places greater emphasis on loyalty and devotion.
I also anticipate a wave of “Vynnyk clones” appearing, especially at the regional and local level. You don’t have to look far — just step into any decent café with live music, and you’ll likely hear a Vynnyk-like performer already replacing the usual chanson acts.

So, what makes up the Vynnyk formula? Money, quality PR, emotional psychology, and well-planned marketing tactics. He’s a fully market-driven product. Although, given his title as “the most handsome,” investors may start to worry — could he soon be replaced by someone even more good-looking and vocally powerful?
– reflects Liliia Brudnytska.

Singer born of demand, or a successful PR product?

Victor Pashula, PR director of the Dnipro Development Agency, explained to Opinion that calling Vynnyk just an artist who filled Mikhailov’s niche is not only obvious but quite banal. After all, it’s not supply that creates demand — it’s the other way around. In his view, the singer’s popularity is easy to explain: Oleg Vynnyk is “one of their own” to audiences aged 40+, who are his core demographic. He gives them the feeling of being a fatal, irresistible woman — as though the entire concert is staged just for her. His looks, to many, are the embodiment of a romantic ideal. Plus, getting close to this idol isn’t that difficult.

However, Pashula emphasizes that any product promotion involves significant financial investment at the start. And the jokes and memes that swirl online? They only help the marketers — not hurt them.

“Of course, one might say Oleg Vynnyk took over the niche in Ukraine of the ‘musical weapon of mass seduction for middle-aged women’ previously occupied by northern neighbor Stas Mikhailov. That’s a fair and obvious take — but also a bit too basic. Because if we look at it from the other side, the reality is that the niche found its ‘hero.’ As the saying goes, demand creates supply.”

Yesterday’s girls, who some -teen years ago were screaming to the tunes of Laskovyi May, painting romantic “mirages” in their pretty little heads, have stepped into a different reality once they crossed the 40+ threshold.
And it’s not even about whether the prince on the white horse has grown a beer belly, how tolerable the mood swings of their teenage kids are, or whether the family is financially stable.
Every woman is an individual.
And unfortunately, this is often forgotten.

Raised on the ideals of classic romance novels and stories glorifying romanticism, they crave… sublimation.
A burst of emotional release — something to relieve the daily tension slowly being eaten up by routine.
Not so long ago, they’d gather in groups for a glass or two of wine, try their hand at karaoke, or let loose at an 80s disco (because vibing to trendy beats from slick boy-band clones just doesn’t cut it anymore).

Psychologists note that during periods of depression or emotional deficit, people tend to return to places where they once felt safe and calm.
They choose images or memories associated with the past.
Oleh Vynnyk’s musical escapism fits perfectly into this narrative.
He’s a symbol through which women indulge in nostalgia.
First, he’s relatable. Also in the 40+ club.
Second, he lets women feel like that fatal woman — the one who’s hard to find, easy to lose, worth moving mountains for or writing romantic lines about.
In fact, the one for whom the whole concert was put on in the first place.
Third, his hypersexuality and demeanor.
In his 40s (oh my!) — not a trace of cellulite.
A chiseled blond with blue eyes who kneels before a lady.
And most importantly — he’s physically accessible: he loves hugs and kisses regardless of your waistline, layers of makeup, or the jewelry you’re wearing.
All of this comes with a vocal range (lyrical-dramatic tenor) loved by his target audience, and massive publicity.
The latter is simply a fact of the business behind the “Oleh Vynnyk” project.
In our commercialized age, there’s no promotion without upfront investment.
The fairy tale of “appeared out of nowhere” was written by producers and PR pros.
The hype came afterward.
And, by the way, it’s fueled by word of mouth from men who are just plain jealous of the attention he’s getting: memes like “Who is Oleh Vynnyk and why don’t I know him?” have been sitting nicely in the marketing karma for the second year in a row.

So, dear men of 40+ ladies — instead of mocking their taste in sentimental heroes with shallow lyrics, try giving your women more attention.
We all have our own peculiar tastes — don’t we?

Text by Dmytro Zhuravel

He fills stadiums, and almost every concertgoer knows his lyrics by heart.
